Auburn Football Kicks-off in 15 days

Many of us in the Greater Valley Area are counting the days until the opening kick-off of this year’s college football season. Fifteen days for those who aren’t counting. The Auburn Tigers are ranked No. 23 in USA Today’s preseason poll and appear ready for the challenge to compete for SEC supremacy.
The Tigers open their season against Arkansas State on Saturday, September 4 at 6 p.m. CT at Jordan-Hare Stadium, just 25 minutes from our two hotels near Auburn, The Hampton Inn and Suites in Lanett and the newly remodeled Holiday Inn Express in Valley. Sales at Kia are Up!

Kia Motors America recently announced their May 2010 sales figures, and they are astonishing! Kia sold 31,431 cars in May 2010, an all-time record for the month of May, surpassing the previous May record (2008) by 384 vehicles. Year-to-date sales of the all-new and very popular Sorento crossover utility vehicle are up 14.6 percent from 2009 to 2010. The Sorento is Kia’s best selling model, and the brand’s first vehicle built entirely in the U.S. at Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia’s West Point plant.

Hampton Inn Staff Praised

In a recent Letter to the Editor in the Valley Times News, Hampton Inn & Suites employees Patti Jones, Christine Jourden and Melinda Edwards were praised from guests of the hotel for going above and beyond the call of duty.
When a couple from North Carolina, who were in town for their grandson’s graduation at Auburn University, found a flat tire prior to leaving for the graduation they were rendered helpless and had to call family members to pick them up at the hotel so they wouldn’t be late for the graduation ceremonies.
Little did they know that while they were away, Jones, Jourden and Edwards had made numerous phone calls to see if someone could replace the tire. When the couple arrived back at the hotel, they found that King Chevrolet had come to the hotel parking lot to take care of the tire at no cost. When the couple learned that Edwards had left a tip for the individual who fixed the tire, they offered to pay her back. Edwards would not hear of it and simply asked the couple to pay it forward. The couple was overwhelmed with the kindness and thoughtfulness of the Hampton Inn & Suites staff and good folks at King Chevrolet. Congratulations to Patti, Christine and Melinda for a job well done!

We hosted the interesting & successful “Treasure Hunters” Road Show, January 12-16, 2010 and had too many special events and corporate meetings since then to itemize. The entire Hampton Inn & Suites team worked long hours and pulled together to accomplish tasks both large and small to make the first year a resounding success!
Kudos to everyone! And, of course, we can’t forget that Melinda Edwards was awarded the Spirit of the Hampton honors, a very prestigious nationwide recognition for outstanding customer service. Less than 1% of all Hampton employees receive this honor each year and we are proud to have one here with us in the Greater Valley Area.

Game-Set-Match: Tennis Screens are Winners!

GVHG Begins Innovative Management Training Program

Greater Valley Hospitality Group (GVHG) recently launched a new Hospitality Management Development Program to help trainees understand the daily functions that go into running a hotel property.
The two-year program is designed to enhance employees’ skills in management reporting, human resources, breakfast service, sales and marketing, front desk and guest services, and housekeeping.
Christopher Beaird, the program’s first participant, began working with GVHG’s Hampton Inn & Suites property in Lanett, Alabama, in April 2009, just before the grand opening. Beaird, a graduate of Springwood School in Valley, Alabama, and Auburn University, will learn and master all of the operations of the hotel during his training. Read More→
