More Jobs on the Way

relocate to west point gaA proposed $72 million business park in Columbus, Ga., is projected to bring more than 1,000 civilian jobs close to the Greater Valley Area within five years. The park will be home to a variety of defense related businesses and contractors supporting the new Maneuver Center of Excellence. This investment is further proof that the extended area around Ft. Benning and Kia in Georgia will continue to expand and see increased demand on development.

The 1.4 million square foot office park is the result of growth at the 184,000 acre military base undergoing a $3.5 billion expansion. The expansion is part of the U.S. Army’s Base Realignment and Closure Initiative.

The military expansion, which includes moving the Armor School from Fort Knox in Kentucky to Fort Benning, could create up to 11,000 jobs among active-duty soldiers, Department of Defense civilians and contractors.

Southern Union State is Growing

Yet another sign of growth and development in the Greater Valley Area is the new building going up on the campus of Southern Union State Community College on Fob James Drive in Valley, Ala.  Fall classes at this established community college begin Monday, August 16, 2010.  Enrollment is now open and full information on course offerings and financial aid are available on the Southern Union website.

The new building will house an expansion program designed to train interested students in specific elements of machine shop technology.  The initial class offerings will include AC / DC electrical classes providing students the opportunity to become skilled, licensed industrial electricians.  Successful graduates of the program will have the skills, knowledge and ability to compete effectively for jobs at Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia and with many of the supplier companies now located in Read More→

Military communities in AlabamaOrganizers estimate more than 600 soldiers, GS civilians and contractors attended the Fort Benning Relocation Fair hosted at the Ft. Knox Leaders’ Club on Thursday, April 29.

GVG team members, Jeanne Charbonneau & Mary Susan Underwood made the trip to Ft. Knox last month, joining over 70 other agencies and companies representing Realtors, schools, churches and builders at the fair. The GVG display proved to be a rousing success, with people stopping by consistently throughout the day.
