Southern Union State is Growing

By Mike Rieman | July 16, 2010

Yet another sign of growth and development in the Greater Valley Area is the new building going up on the campus of Southern Union State Community College on Fob James Drive in Valley, Ala.  Fall classes at this established community college begin Monday, August 16, 2010.  Enrollment is now open and full information on course offerings and financial aid are available on the Southern Union website.

The new building will house an expansion program designed to train interested students in specific elements of machine shop technology.  The initial class offerings will include AC / DC electrical classes providing students the opportunity to become skilled, licensed industrial electricians.  Successful graduates of the program will have the skills, knowledge and ability to compete effectively for jobs at Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia and with many of the supplier companies now located in east Alabama and west Georgia.

The two-year college, which is part of The Alabama College System, offers quality academic, technical, and health science programs that are designed to be affordable. The curriculum offers students the opportunity to earn transferable credits towards a degree at a four-year college or university or to acquire immediately marketable skills in a variety of trades.

The school is conveniently located near the Apartments at the Venue which includes: The Verandas at The Venue, The Vistas at the Venue and Crest Club at the Venue. All three apartment communities offer easy access to area shops and restaurants and are just feet from the 54,000 square foot Valley Community Center and Sportsplex. All residents at the Apartments at the Venue get a free membership to the world class sports facility during the length of their lease!
